Social Work Program Overview
Housed within UCF's College of Health Professions and Sciences, the School of Social Work originally opened in partnership with the Department of Sociology. The social work programs at UCF served as some of the first CSWE-accredited programs in the state of Florida. The School of Social Work at UCF consistently makes strides to foster positive partnerships within the Orlando and central Florida communities, offering valuable experiences to and resources for students and members of the public alike. For example, in 2016 the School of Social Work provided community outreach following the Pulse nightclub tragedy, and hosted a "refugee simulation camp" to provide insight into the experience of displaced refugees.
Online Social Work Programs
The University of Central Florida's social work master's program includes a fully online option that requires no campus visits. The online MSW offers two part-time track options, one general MSW and one advanced standing program for those who hold a BSW. The general online MSW requires a minimum of 62 credit hours, and students work through the program as a cohort; the program takes about three years of study.
Alternatively, for those with a BSW who earned at least a 3.3 GPA in their final 60 hours of undergraduate study, UCF offers the advanced standing MSW, which requires only 32-credit hours, which students complete in cohorts over four semesters. Students must complete a field internship, and the School of Social Work places online students at locations within a 45-mile radius of their home community.
On-Campus Social Work Programs
The on-campus social work programs at UCF include bachelor's and master's options, as well as doctoral-level studies available through a social work concentration in the doctorate in public affairs program. MSW students at UCF may pursue a variety of concentrations and certificates in areas like military social work and marriage and family therapy, offered through electives in the College of Education. The on-campus MSW program prepares students for licensure within the state of Florida.
